About HistoryFare

Hi and welcome to HistoryFare military historian and tour guide .

My name is Brian Fare and I run my HistoryFare, a Military Historian and Tour Guide business based in the historic market town of Melton Mowbray.

My interest in history, mainly military history, especially Royal Air Force and aviation, but also local history, stems from where I grew up as a child.

I grew up in a small village called Freckleton on the Fylde coast in Lancashire.  Living close to the runway of BAE Systems Warton airfield, where my father worked as an aircraft engineer is what started my interest in aviation.

Whilst at High School, I joined my local Air Cadets, 967 (Kirkham and South Fylde) Sqn and this pushed my interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force forward. After leaving school, I joined the Royal Air Force as a spritely 17 ½  year old Aircraft Engineer.

In the mid 90’s, my family and I settled in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, known as the “Rural Capital of Food”.  I gradually became aware of its fascinating history and characters from over the centuries connected to the historic market town.

And I have to say, as much as I love a pork pie, there is more to Melton’s history than just Pork Pies and Stilton Cheese!

Over the years, my passion and interest in both local and military history has grown to such an extent that during the Covid pandemic, I started this website to publish blogs and history subjects.

I hope you will enjoy reading my blogs about the places and individuals I have researched as much as I have enjoyed researching and writing about them as History is meant to be shared.

Since then, my passion for history has grown even further and I now have my own business HistoryFare delivering talks and guided tours.
